29 Children under the age of 11 are killed in fires in the UK every year, and a further 1,100 are injured. The Fire Fighters Charity and the Communities and Local Government Fire Kills Campaign have joined forces to create the first of what is anticipated to be an annual, high profile event, listed in teachers’ diaries across England.
With support from the Department of Children, Schools and Families, the objective is to reduce these statistics by teaching children key messages that they can take home and rely to their families.
This year, the campaign is aimed at Year 2 children and suggested educational activities will follow the Key Stage 1 curriculum.
